💸 10 Million Fine for Platinum Gaming Limited

𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀

The investigation found multiple cases where customers showed clear signs of harm but no action was taken:

- One customer lost £5,000 in 24 hours after registering and over £16,000 in three months.

- Another lost £31,000 in nine months, repeatedly breaching limits with no engagement.

- A third exceeded a £2,500 loss limit within 16 minutes of opening an account.

- One player staked £73,000 in 23 days, losing £4,100, yet no interaction occurred.

These cases showed that systems failed to detect or respond to at-risk behaviour effectively.

𝗔𝗠𝗟 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀

Platinum Gaming’s AML framework was also found lacking:

- Risk assessments did not consider customers previously closed for AML concerns, allowing re-registration.

- Policies lacked clarity on when to apply enhanced due diligence.

- High-risk factors like large deposits and risky occupations were not consistently reviewed.

𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀

This is not the first fine for the operator. In 2023, Platinum Gaming was penalised £2.9 million for similar issues.

The Gambling Commission noted that while industry progress has been made, the failings here were “particularly disappointing.” Senior leaders were urged to take ownership of compliance outcomes, with further action possible if standards are not improved.

Platinum Gaming must now:

- Undergo a third-party audit of its AML and safer gambling systems.
